How to Stay Cool Even When You Have to Cover Up

Earlier this year I was diagnosed with Lyme disease, and I was put on the antibiotic doxycycline, which caused my skin to become photosensitive—it would start turning red after just a few minutes in direct sunlight. I pictured myself wearing wide-brimmed Carmen Sandiego hats and flowing caftans to keep the sun’s rays at bay. But in reality, I sweated through a hooded anorak and jeans as I searched for more-lightweight options that would allow me to spend time outdoors without becoming burnt toast.
