In the past, we have not been fans of hard-sided luggage. Hard-sided suitcases are not (despite what many may think) tougher than their soft-sided counterparts. But they do have attributes that some people may value over durability. Hard-shell bags usually weigh less than fabric ones, and they come in far more colors, prints, and textures. So if, for whatever reason, you prefer a hard-shell case, we recommend the Away Carry-On after seven years of testing hard-sided suitcases.
