How the Global Supply Chain Might Ruin Christmas (And How to Adjust)

Retailers seem to start the holiday shopping season earlier and earlier each year, but this year the early jump may be for good reason: making sure you and your loved ones get your gifts on time. Supply-chain challenges driven by shipping delays, component shortages, and factory closures don’t bode well for procrastinators and last-minute shoppers. To combat the problem, retailers are trying to get you to buy earlier, though good deals may be more scarce. Amazon already announced a slate of what it refers to as “Black Friday–worthy deals” that started October 4. Competitors such as Target and Best Buy have joined in, too, and Walmart will reveal its own preview sales shortly.
