Apple’s iPad Pro and Microsoft’s Surface tablets are the best-known versions of this kind of hybrid device, but they aren’t the best ones to buy. The Apple iPad Air (4th generation) is the best choice for most creative work, but it’s not as versatile as a laptop. And the Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable is a better choice if you tend to work with documents, spreadsheets, and databases or if you want to hook up an extra monitor, but it has fewer finger- and stylus-friendly tablet apps.
