HomeKit is Apple’s user-friendly system for assembling a reliable and secure DIY smart home. With a couple of HomeKit-compatible devices and an iPhone or iPad to control them (alas, HomeKit works only with Apple devices), you can start from scratch and have a fully fledged smart-home system up and running in just a few minutes. From there you can just as quickly create Automations (which set up your devices to function autonomously) or Scenes (sets of commands that go to several devices simultaneously). Or you can control any of your devices directly using an app or even voice commands via Siri, the digital assistant built into Apple phones, tablets, computers, watches, and HomePod Mini smart speakers.
