For me, a Southern girl who grew up in South Carolina, porches can be especially welcoming; they evoke memories of waving at a passing neighbor or calling them over for a cool drink from your peaceful and comfortable perch. I love watching seasons pass under homemade Halloween decorations (some of which have become beloved heirlooms) or twinkling Christmas lights. Laughing, eating outdoors, and engaging in countless intimate conversations that stretched late into the night on our porch all helped shape me into the woman I am today.
