Losing a phone or laptop stinks, and that missing device can be a security risk if it holds important data. Once you enable “find my device” software, you can track your lost device or remotely wipe its storage if you don’t think there’s any hope of recovery. Or more optimistically, there’s always the chance that an honest person stumbles across your device, in which case enabling the “find my device” settings gives them a chance to locate and contact you, the owner.
